High-Profile Medical Cannabis Users
It’s no secret that many famous individuals smoke or have consumed marijuana, and the media is usually more focused on celebrities who use cannabis recreationally, but what about all of those high-profile Medial Cannabis Users?
We thought it would be a great idea to put together a list that focuses on the high-profile Medical Cannabis users instead.
In 2008 Morgan Freeman was in a car accident that left his left hand paralyzed.
He has said that his hand never fully healed and still needs to wear a compression glove to keep the blood flowing.
Morgan Freeman also suffers from Fibromyalgia (a chronic disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and tenderness in localized areas) and uses Cannabis to help ease his pain.
Queen Victoria is one of the first internationally known individuals who were prescribed Medical Cannabis. During her rule of the British Empire from 1837 to 1901 Queen Victoria suffered from bad menstrual cramps, and her team of physicians ensured she was comfortable by prescribing Medical Cannabis.
Although he is recognized as a long-time recreational user, Tommy Chong also uses Cannabis medicinally.
In 2012 the world found out that Tommy was suffering from Prostate Cancer. After his initial treatment with Cannabis, Tommy was able to completely eradicate his cancer. Unfortunately, in June of 2015, the Cancer came back and he was required to undergo radiation treatment.
Tommy informed us of what was going on via tweet on June 17th 2015;
“I have good news and bad news. First, the bad news. The cancer came back and it’s a real pain in the butt. The good news is I have to use more marijuana to treat the cancer. Please wish me luck while I kick cancer’s behind. Thank you for your love and support, now excuse me while I medicate and meditate.”
In 1999, this former television talk show host was prescribed Cannabis when he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Since then Montel has become a Medical Cannabis advocate and founded a nonprofit for MS Research and Education.
He announced in September 2016 that he would be releasing his own line of high-grade cannabis products for people with chronic pain.
Whoopie Goldberg is another advocate of Medical Cannabis and uses it to help cope with the pain she experiences from her glaucoma. In March of 2016, we learned that Whoopie went into the medical Cannabis industry with Maya Elisabeth of Om Edibles, to release a Cannabis product line designed to target menstrual discomfort.
In 2004 Rock Star Melissa Etheridge was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to undergo intensive chemotherapy treatment and says that smoking Cannabis helped her get through it.
In a CNN Guest Column, she statedPeople use marijuana for different reasons, and I needed it to get me through tough times. I used it every day during chemo: It gave me an appetite so I was able to eat and keep my strength up. It also helped with the depression, and it eased the gastrointestinal pain. I have been a medicinal marijuana smoker for nine years now. I find relief from the gastrointestinal effects of the chemo even now. I find it helps with regulating my sleep. I also enjoy it before I watch “Game of Thrones.”
